What is Neurotherapy and Biofeedback?
Biofeedback is a form of neurotherapy that is used to help patients train their brains. Our bodies have a number of involuntary functions, such as lifting our hand to wave to someone, lifting our knee when walking upstairs, or our heart racing when we get nervous. Biofeedback can be used to help patients control these involuntary actions. With biofeedback therapy, a person can learn how to prevent or treat certain involuntary actions. The idea is that with this therapy, a person can learn how to understand what's going on inside their body so they can gain more control of it. Common conditions treated with biofeedback include:
- Chronic pain
- Urinary incontinence
At BHFS Medical and Behavioral Services, we offer biofeedback therapy to men and women at our Lewisville, TX office. For more information, contact clinical director Dr. Dwane Allen today.
"Was surprised to see you guys offering suboxone treatment! I've been seeing Dr. Gray for about 2 years and have been suggesting that they integrate it into their services. I have been doing it for about a month now and I am definitely impressed by the results."- A.W. / Google / Oct 03, 2021
"I have been a patient at BHFS for about 6 months now and although their service was top notch, I wasn't seeing phenomenal improvement in myself until they started their suboxone treatment with me. I feel like I am finally the man I am supposed to be. Very grateful they added this addition to their clinic as not many clinics in my area provide this service."- J.H. / Google / Oct 02, 2021
"Friendly staff. Very kind, caring and considerate. Wanted to do their best to advocate for me and my child."- A.L. / Google / Oct 01, 2021
"The clinic was very nice! I was able to learn more about therapy. The staff is clean and just the right size to have caring conversations to develop personally. I appreciate Mrs.Gray's presence and timely help as we complete services with her assistance."- T.J. / Google / Sep 29, 2021
"I have just started counseling and am hoping for a life changing experience. It is a friendly atmosphere and my counselor assured me of success if I do my part, which I will. Looking forward to feeling human again."- G.P. / Google / Sep 28, 2021
What Can I Expect from Biofeedback Therapy?
During your first biofeedback session at BHFS Medical and Behavioral Services, we will begin by getting to know you and your needs. From there, we can create a treatment plan to help you achieve your goals. We will attach electrodes to your skin, which will send signals to our monitor. The monitor will display sounds, flashes of light, or an image that will represent your heart rate, breathing rate, blood pressure, temperature, sweating, muscle activity, and more. When you're experiencing stress, these will change (heart rate will speed up, muscles tighten, etc.) and will be indicated on the screen. The idea is this feedback will give you the knowledge you need to try to stop these involuntary behaviors. Our biofeedback therapist will help you practice different relaxation exercises that will also help you control these functions. Some of these exercises include:
- Deep breathing
- Guided imagery
- Alternating tightening and relaxing muscle groups
